Content Management Systems

Content Management System or CMS is usually a PHP (more on what PHP is a little later) script (a type of computer language that is less funky coding and more human language-like) that allows a person to create, update and maintain a website without using software on their own computer. In other words the script (or software if you will) is located on your hosting company's computer (or server).
A full service CMS script can offer the user (I hate that word) a template which holds images, text etc in a particular place on the browser screen. A browser is what you are using right now to read this page (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, even AO-hell...er um AOL).
Ok in the next lesson I will list what a good CMS offers and where you can download one to play around with. It is highly recommended that you have your own domain name and rented space with a hosting company. Hosting space is where your website sits and is served up to the world. It's rare that free hosting will allow you to use a script (or software) on their servers/computers. Normally a hosting company has safeguards in place to make sure no one tries to do something stupid (i.e. run a virus "script" or program on their servers).
Thus it's a good idea to get a hosting company after you have thought up and registered your own domain name. I'll have some good, reputable, AFFORDABLE hosting company links in my next posting.
In the meantime here is some eye candy for the day... Enjoy
